Paris Metro and homework

We wandered around the Metro system yesterday and made a visit to the Eiffel Tower.  Figuring out that long distance walking is going to be a challenge with the kids.  After a couple of meals at streetside cafes, we changed things up and had a nice Thai dinner.  Mornings so far are spent with dad running out for fresh croissants, pain au chocolat and les ouefs, and mom starting the homework.  Math facts seem to be unpopular first thing in the morning, but we’re plowing through.  Also using Khan Academy for some history lessons on the French Revolution – which is more than a refresher for me too.

Happy Turkey day

Things are looking up for us. Our apartment manager found Janell’s backpack through some persistent Holmesian sleuthwork, so all we’ve lost now is one Kindle (apparently also forgotten on one of the various forms of Turkish transport that got us to Istanbul).  We only had time to replace one of the missing items, Janell’s sunglasses, before the bag was recovered. So we’re pretty happy, especially Janell:

We believe we owe it all to the Turkish evil eye amulet we purchased at a local shop, which we now take everywhere with us.

Kids have been doing an awesome job with homework which has made for some pleasant mornings here in Istanbul.  Both are doing well with math, and Janell has been working extra hard, cleverly combining our Singapore Math workbooks, Khan Academy website, various iPhone apps and handwritten lessons to keep them engaged.  It’s great to see them learning and happy at the same time.  Who knew this was possible?
