Today (Friday) we took another jaunt out to the Great Barrier Reef, this time courtesy of Reef Sprinter out of Port Douglas (about 1 hour away from our house in Cairns). The boat is a 1000hp-powered Avon style craft and it only takes 15 minutes to get from Port Douglas 25km out to the coral reef at the Low Isles (named by Captain Cook for the (wait for it…) low profile of the islands; it’s now a World Heritage Site. One of the two islands is a huge mangrove glade. Lots of coral and even more fish that we saw on our last GBR trip. Because of the boat speed, the trip is only a half day, but you still get a nice amount of snorkeling in.
